About Avocet Systems

Avocet Systems has been providing custom software solutions since 1991. We specialize in delivering real time data collection, control and reporting applications for use in a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week environment. Our core business is in automated loading applications for petroleum distribution terminals. Our work encompasses data base design, load rack control, inventory, and customer billing.

Avocet Systems custom designs each system to meet the specific needs of the customer. We are thus able to use the latest software products drawing on our experience with previous similar systems. Initially, we work with the customer to determine their requirements and how to best integrate the design with their current business practices. We provide continual feedback to the customer during the development process. One or more Avocet Systems' engineers are on-site at time of installation for checkout of the new system and to supply training. Avocet Systems provides continuing support for all of its clients.

Expertise

Expertise

All systems are data base oriented utilizing commercially available databases from Oracle, Sybase, or Microsoft. Database maintenance screens and reports are generally provided through Sybase's RAD tool, Power Builder. The real time aspects of the system can be written using either Java, Power Builder, or C++ depending upon the demands of the application. Electronic presets and other 3rd party equipment generally use serial port communications, either EIA 232 or EIA 485. Avocet Systems has experience in the use of electronic presets supplied by FMC's Smith Meter division, Daniels Instruments, and Toptech Systems. Additional control for pumps, gates and other devices is done through dedicated PLCs. We normally use IDEC PLCs, but have also used Allen-Bradley.

We have supplied systems running under Microsoft Windows OS, UNIX, and the DEC VAX (now replaced). The choice of computer platform and operating system is usually determined by customer preference as to what will best fit with their existing computer complement.

Presently we are writing web applications using PHP on a Linux Apache Server with an Oracle 10g database back end, for one of our clients to permit their customers to access their product allocation balances remotely.
